It's kinslaying AND he's killing his king. Unless you are suggesting Euron doesn't associate with the Iron Islands, it's a betrayal. -alicehanners

Further support: Balon says "You fool, move aside for your king." which implies he expects Euron to treat him as a king and thus it's a betrayal. -alicehanners

Stannis vs. Renly is a very close parallel. Both cases you have brothers openly opposing each other and asserting their own right to the throne. A betrayal requires a certain guile, and for the other party to be initially unaware of your motives. -nyan

Balon banished Euron years earlier, at least in the book continuity. It's not a betrayal if, after you throw someone in jail, they break out and kill you. -nsimmonds

Stannis vs Renly openly declared themselves enemies. From the SHOW conversation we can determine that Balon thought Euron was dead. Euron calls him "Brother" so we know, in the show, it's his brother. This seems like pretty cut-and-dry betrayal to me. -alicehanners

Right, we won't use any book continuity to determine points. That said, I don't think there should be any assumption that Balon and Euron are on friendly terms simply because they are brothers. And we have evidence pointing to the fact that they don't really trust each other:
1. Euron openly asserts that he wants Balon's throne, much like Renly: "You're old, brother. You've had your time. Now let another rule." and "I am the storm, brother. The first storm and the last. And you're in my way."
2. Balon pulls his knife first, showing that he's aware of Balon as a physical threat. -nyan

It seems like betrayal in my opinion. I think this parallels the Nymeria killing of Trystane in Episode 1: both kinslaying, both having the betrayed person drawing a weapon, both to eliminate a rival in the way of a power grab, and both openly saying why they're betraying this person.
Also, I don't think there needs to be an implied trust or friendliness between characters for a betrayal to count. Think of Jamie hypothetically killing King Robert, Thorne taking part in killing Jon Snow, ect. There was animosity between these sets of characters and if Jaime had slayed Robert, it probably would have been scored as a betrayal. -apayne270
