A bit out of left field, BUT:

What if a point is awarded for each character for each scene in which they speak, BUT only if they are not listed in the opening credits? Scene being location change (i.e. Jaime and Cersei's transition from hall to beach counts, Hound would have two different scenes at the farmer's house because they switched to another storyline in the middle).

That would exclude the following characters for Episode 1, and the title credits would easily keep track for you:

Arya Stark
Missandei

It seems like, as someone pointed out, most of the smaller characters are just useless filler. This would be a really good balancing rule.

It would give points to about 15 minor characters this episode, and a single point is enough to contribute but not enough to tip the scales.

Tip the scales dramatically, I mean. It seems unfair that if someone has a team with five minor characters who have appearances and speak in their scene, they get 0 points, same as someone with five minor characters who don't show up at all. -alicehanners

seems to counteract the, from my perspective, wise decision to draft "Main Cast" characters. Minor characters are not expected to put up major points, so I don't think they deserve some sort of bonus or multiplier simply because they are less important players. While the scoring system isn't perfect, I don't think it appropriately addresses any imbalance -pacelli929

Closing this out to reduce clutter, I think @pacelli929 has a good point in that it sort of buffs every character (for a council scene, Daenerys has a monologue and gets the same 1pt as a Missandei or Varys who just chimes in with a single line). It does add to the points floor, but if everyone is getting similar points that's just noise and makes the power characters a bit less interesting.

That said, I'm open to the idea that players will have their own scoring categories they'd like to count, especially if they're doing the legwork to scorekeep for that. It's a little late for S7 anyway, but I'm hoping to finally get the admin side opened up for other games and scorekeepers by the end of the year (I know, I know, I've definitely hoped for that almost as often as GRRM hopes that this will be the year The Winds of Winter gets finished). @alicehanners I'll get in touch with you when that's ready and hopefully we can open up a few more categories to experiment with in S8. -nyan
