I dont believe this an exec decision either. On the other hand however i think there should be something along the lines of 'disobeying a direct order' put into the scoring rubric.(Maybe they are already represented by betrayal scores? Marwyn did expect Sam to act in his interests and he did the opposite.) Either way i think sam should get points for this, just not as an exec decision. -hindsight44

I think it would count as an executive decision not necessarily because he's disobeying orders, but because the procedure he is attempting in and of itself is forbidden. He's risking everything to cure Jorah. -ssleppy

I completely agree. Since when is Samwell in the position to make executive decisions, allowing these points open the door to giving every character points anytime they disagree with anyone. -ssantise

I would also like to point out that Samwell disobeyed Archmaester Marwyn last week when he was told not to enter the restricted section and he did it anyway. No points were given for this, why are we giving him points this time instead? -ssantise

I. They determine the life/death fate of a character."
The Archmaester's decision to forbid treatment on Jorah is a life/death situation for Jorah. Sam's decision to overrule that and attempt treatment is a step towards saving Jorah's life. -hkeseyan

@hkeseyan gets to what I was thinking, basically the Archmaester made a decision that Jorah would not be operated on, but Sam has overrode that. Would people think this fits more as a "betrayal"? I think it could work, and I agree that stealing books in E1 is a similar level of betrayal if we count it that way. -nyan

Well I think its more of a debate over whether Archmaester Marwyn's decisions matter to Samwell. In the previous episode's events it was determined that Samwell is not even a follower of Archmaester Marwyn with one of the primary reasons being that Samwell does not follow his decisions. I don't think Archmaester Marwyn's decisions hold clout over Samwell, so why does his disobeying of these decisions matter, if Samwell is just going to disobey or follow as he wishes. -ssantise

@ssantise I would not necessarily hold that followers and decisions are intertwined. Samwell is not directly a follower of the Archmaester, however the Archmaester is still making Citadel-wide rules for all Maesters (and Maesters-in-training), which Samwell must obey as part of the order. Just like a student is not necesarily a follower of a principal, but the principal can still make school-wide decisions that affect all the students. -nyan
