I.III under Political Wins doesn't require someone to contradict in order to receive points for a decision.

Everything the Archmaester says implies he has personal ownership over the decision. "Were you a commoner I'd have you shipped to Valyria at once to live out your life with the stone men. As an anointed night, I'll allow you one more day." He does not say that this is what is offered to everyone, there is no mention of what other maesters offer.

Even if the extra night was given to kill himself, it still has a significant effect on the life/death fate of a character. It's a decision made by the Archmaester's own assessment of the situation, using his own authority, and it has a major effect on the story line.

Needing someone to overrule is there as a way to vet that a decision is important and controversial, and thus the Archmaester needs political sway to make it happen (else there are many normal procedural decisions that can be counted as decisions).

However this submission reminded me that, prior to Sam going behind his back, the Archmaester did forbid Jorah from getting the experimental treatment despite Sam's protests, which fits pretty well into the executive decision category (we don't really have a rule that requires the decision to be carried out to completion). -nyan

Executive decision made to keep Jorah at the Citadel for one more day outside the usual procedure which is to ship him off to Old Valyria right away. This decision allows for the potential saving of Jorah's life by Sam, since Jorah spends an extra night at the Citadel. -nyan

@magnetic_rose finally got around to fixing that up! Marwyn was from the rumored casting list (and was the character's book name). Though I'm curious, has Ebrose actually had his name spoken aloud? Samwell only seems to say 'Archmaester'. -nyan

I've been paying relatively close attention to his name, and I don't recall ever hearing it spoken aloud. IMDB credits Broadbent as Ebrose. Also, I believe Ebrose was in the books as more of a healer, while Marwyn was more of a magician. Given the autopsy scene and the greyscale scenes, I think Ebrose is more fitting with the direction they want to take the character -hkeseyan
