Ebrose loses an understudy, who drops a task he was given to transcribe the old texts. The Citadel loses a janitor and busboy. In return for receiving access to The Citadel and its resources, Sam was entrusted to (1) not steal books (especially form the restricted section) and (2) perform his tasks and serve his superiors. Does there need to be a sworn oath to constitute betrayal, or is breaking an unwritten placement of trust enough? -hkeseyan

Well I think the trust to not steal books is accounted for, and stealing books is the reason that Sam has to run away in the middle of the night. But the Maester training program doesn't seem like it is super strict about just quitting on the job and leaving (Qyburn was ejected, not executed, which is what would have happened at say the Night's Watch). -nyan
