Given that Sansa has to ask Jon where he is, it seems Ramsay is Jon's prisoner at first. Good question on whether Jon telling her his location is actually transferring prisoner status over to Sansa. Personally I think Jon would be upset with Sansa's actions (in all his previous executions he's been very into the Stark "he who passes the sentence should swing the sword" style). -nyan

If you watch the behind the scenes, they say Jon stops beating him because he realizes Ramsay isn't his to kill when he looks over at Sansa.
