Hmmm... is there a real position attached though? With Renly she officially got to be named a member of the Kingsguard, similar with Barristan and Daenerys. This case doesn't seem too different from a regular footman pledging service. -nyan

Ser Davos is still a knight regardless of employment (same with Brienne if she were male and could be officially knighted) - it's a title you keep forever (like earning a phd and calling yourself doctor). Going over the quote, Brienne simply "swears her services" and the "meat and mead" reply from Sansa is similarly generic - a title or position is never named.

There will be a lot of situations of characters teaming up with nobility, but without actually naming a title it's hard to distinguish it from a basic alliance or employment. As a precedent, see Tyrion/Varys/Daario all working for Dany in some capacity, but never having been granted a specific title by her. -nyan

This isn't an ad-hoc alliance though. She swore an oath and has essentially become a permanent (unless released by Sansa) part of the Stark Household. It's a big deal, especially for Brienne.

Even if it's not a title, doesn't it count as convincing Sansa of something major? Brienne has been trying to convince Sansa to let her protect her for like an entire season. Sansa initially said no, and Brienne has now changed her mind. -jedjackoway

It sounds like decent consensus that Brienne should get something here, and convincing Sansa to accept her services is a solid one because of the past rejection. The new title (if there is one) will be saved for when/if it is actually named on the show. -nyan
