The Hound fought and killed wights while the being confronted with fire (dragon fire, trench fire) ... until he hid in the corner. Does Beric's sword count too?

I think it would have counted if Sandor manned up and faced his fears with fire, that's the spirit of this special anyhow. He was mostly scared and then deflected from the situation by going indoors (where there was no fire except for Beric). -nyan

He should get his multiplier for the entire episode since he was confronted by fire the whole time. And I think he should get special points for getting over his fear to save Arya. -kschamber

There was dragon fire everywhere at the start of the battle when he got most of his kills? Also, why wouldn’t the fire on Beric sword count? Fire is fire. -conor_finlay

This feels like one of those technical rule vs spirit of the rule things. The idea is that the Hound should overcome those fears and him battling through wildfire or dragonfire is a big accomplishment given his past trauma. That is why the Special is worded as "confronted by fire" and not simply "in the presence of fire".
There are many kinds types of fire the Hound is actually fine with - he looked into the flames to see the wights coming to Eastwatch, he's been around plenty of campfires and stoves for his eating scenes. -nyan

But he was literally confronted with fire the whole beginning of the episode at didn’t loose his cool? Just because he broke down afterwards doesn’t mean he wasn’t facing up to his fears for a time. It just became too much for him. Dragon fire raining down on a battlefield is a bit different to campfires and stoves, and he was very reluctant to look into that fire. -conor_finlay

There's a difference between "there's fire somewhere in the episode" and "the Hound had to confront fire". Tracking the Hound specifically through the episode, none of his scenes take place anywhere near a fire. He doesn't do any fighting around the trench after it's lit, and there is no fire up on the ramparts.
The one exception you could consider is the kill after Arya nails a chasing wight with a flaming arrow. But the wight he is hitting is not on fire and none of the surroundings are either, but you could argue he was mildly spooked by Arya's arow a few seconds before that. I’m not saying there was fire “somewhere in the episode” though? I’m saying there was fire all over the battlefield that The Hound was fighting on. When the dragons enter the battle you a see shot of Tormund, Rhaegal/Jon comes down and lights up the battlefield next to him. The Hound is on the right flank next to Tormund. If I had an extreme fear of fire and a massive wall of fire right next to me, I definitely wouldn’t be doing too good. Your league your rules though I guess. -conor_finlay

Yeah, he’s not in that scene specifically but we know from the shot at the start of the battle that the Hound is right next to Tormund and Beric so he’s in close proximity of Tormund (and the fire) for sure. If the fire has to actually be visible in a scene with the Hound (red glow not counting), then fair enough though. -conor_finlay
