I think if we get really technical about it, King in the North and Warden of the North are mutually exclusive - you can only be Warden for a reigning monarch, which implies you're not King in the North. Per the WWE criteria, any title change counts even if it sounds like a demotion (one could argue it's a smaller fish in a bigger pond scenario). -nyan

I need to dig deep (or maybe build a search function!), but there was a long discussion and this was changed around S6 or so. The main impetus was people learning things from Bran, which gave them power to decide what to do with that information. Now the main criteria in the rulebooks is "exclusivity" of the secret holders, along with how important the secret information itself is. -nyan
