To explain more about the philosophy, one of the important parts of the scorekeeping is that it can objectively follow definitions, without requiring judgment calls on the part of some scorekeeper (which can be subjective). In this case, I agree with both of you that Stannis probably "deserves" some credit - without his actions, Mance wouldn't have been put in a position to be killed. But "put in a position to be killed" is a little murky to make a rule for - how do you draw the line? Is it really Melisandre that puts him in that position because she starts the fire burning?

Given that, I think it's better to stick to the scoring definitions, because there's no subjectivity to them. And sometimes it results in a "deserving" character losing points, but that's fantasy sometimes - just like a football RB who hauls his team to the goal line, only for the backup to sub in and score the 1yd touchdown. -nyan

I agree with Nyan. Riddle me this: If someone (King A) commands his executioner (Brute) to kill the shopgirl (Lass), and Lass flees to Other Country where she is run over by a cart and dies, does King A get the point? Everyone's actions contribute. The point is, Mance was killed by Jon Snow. Jon Snow was NOT commanded to kill him by Stannis. Therefore, it's not a commanded kill. -alicehanners

I think #4 may be somewhat debatable - assists don't count, and Barristan simply held the Harpy in place while he was stabbed by the other. Arguably though, Barristan knew the stab was coming, and he positioned the Harpy in the way to receive it. I went with that interpretation and credited Barristan with the kill. -nyan

It's an excellent point, but a bit tricky to figure out where to limit the scope. I'd like to figure out the line and record this as a new precedent in the Rulebook.

The problem with awarding automatic followers when someone gains a new title is that it potentially has a limitless range. For example, when Tommen becomes King, did that automatically make *every* Lannister/Tyrell character in the Seven Kingdoms his follower?

I think a reasonable rule would be to require an explicit pledge or act of loyalty by the follower. So in Joffrey's case, he'd get the standard point just for receiving the title of King, but no automatic points for any of the hundreds of named subjects. However if a scene shows a character coming to King's Landing to pledge a *new* oath of fealty to King Joffrey (like he requested of Robb), that'd count as a follower.

Applied to this election, I think normally there'd be no new followers for Jon, even from those who enthusiastically support him like Samwell (same as how Tommen doesn't automatically get every Lannister/Tyrell as a follower). *However*, the Night's Watch is unique in that they carry out a democratic process, giving every member the agency to choose who they want to declare (vote) for. In this case, the votes casted are an explicit act for "I will follow Jon Snow if he wins the election", so the votes by Samwell and Maester Aemon are counted as new followers.

What does everyone else think of establishing this as the scoring rule for followers? -nyan
